“As a child, I walked the fields of the Western Cape alongside my parents and grandparents, learning to identify and gather medicinal herbs used to treat various illnesses within our community. What began as reluctant participation became a deep appreciation for the knowledge passed down through generations, knowledge rooted in healing, sustainability, and respect for the land. Nothing was ever wasted; whatever was not used was returned to the earth. We were taught that we are not owners of these plants, but custodians of the rich herbal heritage found across Southern Africa.”
